The Seeds We Carry: A Reflection on the Mennonite Experience In-Person / Online
Join us for "The Seeds We Carry: A Reflection on the Mennonite Experience," 6:30 p.m. June 16 at Newton Public Library.
Presenter Gregg Schroeder will use a fictional narrative to illuminate real Mennonite history, following one family as they carry their faith, traditions, and seeds – seeds of both faith and grain – across continents and centuries.
"This story began as a personal journey to understand family roots, but grew into a generational story, shaped by both history and imagination, and drawing from documented Mennonite migration patterns – from 15th-century Frisia to Prussia, South Russia, and eventually, Kansas," Gregg writes. "Each section is grounded in the real rhythms of Mennonite life: farming practices, faith traditions, language, and the constant tension between staying and moving. While the characters themselves are imagined, their choices, challenges, and resilience reflect the lived experiences of countless Mennonite families."
Gregg has been a nursing educator since 1992. He is director of nursing education at Hesston College.
This is a hybrid program: Attend in person at Newton Public Library, 223 E. 7th, or click here to sign up for the Zoom Webinar simulcast. Gregg will be with us in person.
