Florence Bessmer Day: Family Concert with Jim Gill

Florence Bessmer Day: Family Concert with Jim Gill In-Person

Celebrate Florence Bessmer Day with a free concert for preschoolers and their families by award-winning musician Jim Gill!

Jim is well-known for celebrating active play. In concert, he strums energizing rhythms on his banjo while everyone sings, claps, dances and spins along to his silly and inspiring musical games. Each concert is more than a show to watch – it is an opportunity for family play!

Pick up your FREE tickets at the front desk starting March 17.

During the week leading up to this concert, families may complete a self-directed scavenger hunt designed to acquaint them with the many resources available in the children's area, thanks in part to the Florence Bessmer Foundation. Children who complete the scavenger hunt will win a prize! Pick up your clue sheet at the front desk starting March 31.

Florence Bessmer was a longtime resident of Newton with an aptitude for managing stocks and a love for children. On her 101st birthday, she fulfilled a longtime dream when a foundation was established in her name to aid Newton Public Library in developing programs for children. The Florence Bessmer Foundation continues to this day. In the new library, the Florence Bessmer Children’s Library was so named to honor Miss Bessmer’s generosity.
